Hi, and welcome.
I live with my family in a small apartment in Japan, and for a long time, I thought the problem was the size of our home.
I grew up in a large house filled with things, where clutter was just part of everyday life. After moving out on my own, I tried to keep things looking tidy by hiding the mess behind cabinet doors and inside storage boxes.
But after becoming a mom, life became busier and our home became harder and harder to manage. No matter how much I cleaned, it never really felt organized.
I used to feel embarrassed inviting friends over. Many of them lived in spacious houses, and I quietly believed that a bigger home was the answer.
Little by little, I started changing the way I organized our space. I began giving everything a home and returning things after using them. I stopped focusing on “hiding” clutter and started creating simple systems that actually worked for everyday life.
Those small changes completely changed how our home feels.
Now, even when I visit large beautiful houses, I no longer feel jealous. Our apartment may be small, but it feels calm, functional, and comfortable for our family.
Through this blog, I share practical storage ideas, simple organization hacks, and realistic ways to create a peaceful home — especially for busy families living in small spaces.
I hope these ideas help make your home feel a little lighter too.
Thank you for visiting Small Japan Living.
